Horse Boot Fitting

Horse Boot Fitting – Fitting Horse Boots

The Ultra, All Terrain Ultra, Active and Recovery model Jogging Shoes are all sold in pairs so come with a left and a right boot. The rings on the top of the boot/fastening clasp/velcro tab always go on the outside of the leg.

Ultra Jogging Shoe

For example, the red Ultra boot in the photo to the right, would go on a horse’s right hoof as the rings are on the right-hand side.

The Ultimate, All Terrain and Trekking model Jogging Shoes are all sold as singles so can go on either the left or the right hoof.

The instructions below take you step by step through the fitting process and at the bottom of the page there are videos too.

Horse Boot Fitting – ULTRA & ALL TERRAIN ULTRA JOGGING SHOES

ultra jogging shoe buckle Loosen all the straps and unhook the velcro.

Press down on the buckle to release and pull
the front strap to loosened.

Jogging Shoe Fitting 1 Use both hands in a side to side rocking motion
to seat the boot fully onto the hoof.
Jogging Shoe Fitting 2 Open the back of the shoe and insert the hoof,
making sure the toe of the hoof is pushed forward into the
toe of the boot and that the boot is on straight.
Jogging Shoe Fitting 3 Lower the hoof to the ground and pull up the back of the boot.
Jogging Shoe Fitting 4 Squeeze the back of the boot tight around the back
of the pastern and fasten the velcro, making sure there is
an even amount secured on both sides and that that there
is no material sticking out.

This is a very important step so be sure to get the back
of the boot as tight to the pastern as possible.

Jogging Shoe Fitting 6 Thread the top strap through the red loop on
the back of the boot and through both rings.
Jogging Shoe Fitting 7 Then double back the strap to thread through the back
(second) ring. Hold the black cord attached to the rings
with one hand and pull on the back strap to tighten with
the other hand. Use an alternating pull to snug the strap
tight – so that you can just get one finger in between the
top of the boot and the leg. Thread the end of the strap
back through the red loop and into the yellow loop.
Excess strap can be doubled back through the red loop again.
Jogging Shoe Fitting 10 Pull the front strap to tighten and secure the
end of the strap in the loop on the side of the
boot. The strap needs to be fairly tight.
Jogging Shoe Fitting 8 To remove the shoe, undo the top strap by unthreading
from the loops and pulling at an angle on the black cord.

Then unthread the front strap(s) from the loops and loosen.
by pressing down on the buckle and loosening the strap.

Horse Boot Fitting – ULTIMATE AND ALL TERRAIN BOOTS

The Ultimates and All Terrains do not have a left or right boot, however it is best to keep the same boot on the same hoof so mark one with a small blob of nail varnish so you know which is which.

Ultimate Jogging Shoe opened up The most important thing with these
models is to ensure you open the
boot wide enough to get the hoof in.
Ultimate-jogging-shoe-open-top2 There is a small strap inside the
boot which must be fed back though
it’s loop which is located low down
in the toe of the boot. You do not
want to take it out of the loop so be
careful not to go too far.
Ultimate-jogging-shoe-open-top Rolling the back of the boot down
really helps for the first few times
and also makes it easier to see if
the fit is correct.

It can be trickier to do
on the smaller sizes but
is possible with
perseverance!
