Horse Boot Sizes

The following information will help you select the correct horse boot sizes for your horse. If you need further help please contact us.

Measure the length of the hoof from the toe to heel buttress which should corresponds to the widest part of frog. If the heel buttresses are in front of the widest part of the frog then the heel may be under run or low in which case you should measure back to the widest part of the frog.

Measuring for low heels

Measure the width of the hoof at the widest point.

Repeat for each hoof that you are buying boots for.

In the above examples the hoof is 13 cm long by 13 cm wide. When we look at the table below we can see that that hoof would fit a size 13 Jogging Shoe. Make sure you measure both hooves as the size can vary even between each pair of front or hind hooves. If the measurements are taken straight after a trim then add 1/8″ (4 mm) to allow for growth during the trim cycle.

For a hoof that measures 11cm long, choose the size 11 boot. If it measures 12cm, choose the size 12 boot and if it measures 13cm choose the size 13 boot etc.

If the measurement is between sizes choose the nearest size boot.
For example, if the hoof measures 13.5 cm or above, choose the size 14 boot.
If it measures less than 13.5 cm choose the size 13 boot.

If the hoof is wider than it is long then you will need to choose the size that corresponds to the width. For example, a hoof that is 12cm long and 12.5cm wide would need the size 13 boot.

For narrow hooves, you will need the Slim version. The uppers on the Slim sizes are shorter than the uppers on the regular sizes – click here to see comparison photos.

Please contact us if you need help with the measurements.

To double-check your measurements you are welcome to send us a photo of each hoof with a measuring tape or ruler in place as shown in the photo below. Be sure to include the whole of the (clean) hoof in the shot and have the camera parallel to the hoof. Photos of the hoof on the ground taken from the front and side are helpful too.
